Frequently Asked Questions

What are Open Graph tags and why do they matter?
Open Graph (OG) tags are HTML meta tags originally introduced by Facebook that control how your webpage appears when shared on social media. They define the title, description, image, and type shown in link previews. Without OG tags, platforms guess what to display — often picking the wrong image or a truncated description. Proper OG tags ensure consistent, professional-looking shares across Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and most messaging apps.
How long does it take for social platforms to update my link preview?
Each platform caches link previews differently. Facebook and LinkedIn offer debug/sharing tools where you can force a re-scrape (Facebook Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector). Twitter caches for about 7 days — use the Twitter Card Validator to refresh. Slack and Discord cache per-workspace and per-channel; sharing the link in a new message or appending a unique query parameter forces a fresh fetch.
Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?
Twitter/X falls back to OG tags when twitter:card-specific tags are missing, so technically OG alone works. However, setting explicit twitter:card (to choose between summary and summary_large_image) and optionally overriding the title, description, or image for Twitter gives you precise control. Best practice: always set twitter:card at minimum, and use OG tags for everything else.
